Nevada City
Nevada City is an historic town in the southern part of Nevada County, about an hour west of Lake Tahoe and an hour northeast of Sacramento. This gateway to the Tahoe National Forest sits in the foothills of the Sierras at an elevation of 2,400 feet, but parts of this area can be as high as 3,800 feet, with varying snow levels. Nevada City is known for its rich history with European-Americans settling in Nevada City in 1849 during the gold rush, which brought prospectors and wealth to this small community.
Nevada City is rich in history and as such, offers a wonderful diversity of architecture. Nevada City is known for its grand Victorian style homes that have been restored to their original style, to ranch-style homes, city cottages and rustic country cabins. Many, many artists and entrepreneurs flock to Nevada City, so there is a great variety of people to meet and many of the residents love the entire downtown area, which has been designated as a national landmark.
